Re: New Tribe,Fans of The Sword Of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Mon, February 14, 2005 - 9:33 AMGoodkind has fallen prey to the Robert Jordan Syndrome. Both the 'Sword of Truth' and 'Wheel of Time' series start wonderfully, and - depending upon your tastes - stay strong through the 4th or 5th book.
After that, however, the books feel hastily written and superficial. The books focus on subplots, and the main plot and character development go by the wayside. In the case of Jordan, the books start to get repetitive.

Re: New Tribe,Fans of The Sword Of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Mon, February 14, 2005 - 9:41 AMOh I don't know--he wavered a bit there around 4&5, but then he came back. I'm just pissed about this most recent one, because very little happened in the begining, and then all of a sudden WHAM!! All this crap is happening, and then the book ends. There's no conclusion at all. I mean, this is a CLIFF HANGER. And he does like to do that from time to time, which is very frustrating. I don't want to wait the couple years it will take for him to write the next one to find out whats going to happen. I wanna know NOW!! -

Re: New Tribe,Fans of The Sword Of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Mon, February 14, 2005 - 12:02 PMJamie, I so agree about the annoying cliff hanger! The book did seem to take its damn time getting to the point and when it did it was all right at the end. Very like Robert Jordan. But the story line seems to say that the next book will be the last book in the Sword of Truth series. Maybe there is a good reason for it to be a cliff hanger and the reason will be found out at the concusion. One can hope but still be frustrated.
On another note I did like the new rule. " A contridiction can not exist." or something like this. I really like Goodkind's philosophies. They are harsh truths about humanity's lack of intelligence but they very thought provoking. -

Re: New Tribe,Fans of The Sword Of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Tue, February 15, 2005 - 2:05 PMIt's been a while since I've read them, but I didn't see a connection between Objectivism and The Sword of Truth. Interesting thought, though. -

Re: New Tribe,Fans of The Sword Of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Wed, February 16, 2005 - 12:58 AMhavent read any of his work but a short search on google came up with this: www.terrygoodkind.com/chats/PIchat4.php where among other things terry goodkind says: "The foundation of my philosophy, Objectivism, is consistency with reality, which is how we can know Truth. I am therefore completely consistent with the laws of identity which are reducible to three basic axioms..."
search that document for objectivism or ayn rand and you'll see. also, some of his books are highly recommended in objectivists circles.
faith of the fallen is described thusly: "The hero, Richard, in this particular book is taken captive by an Altruistic sorceress who wishes to show him the plight of the working man and why we must all sacrifice to help others and not think of ourselves. Among other side stories involving Richard's wife Kahlan, the book follows Richard as he fights to keep his head up and never give up on reason or the individual's right to his own life. "
can't you just picture Ayn Rand clapping her hands and cheering from the grave? -
