I just finished this old fantasy classic by Lord Dunsany and I'm wondering if anyone else here has read it. Dunsany's writing is very beautiful, simple in a way but also ornate. The whole book is written very dreamily. Major plot points come across almost as afterthoughts, with Lord Dunsany focusing on themes of longing and innocence common to all people. I highly recommend this book, it is quite unique in fantasy literature.

Sun, August 22, 2004 - 4:34 AMI read this a few years ago. It was very beautifully written, I agree. I actually liked one of his other books a bit better--it's called The Charwoman's Shadow.

Each sentence could be a short story in itself.
I feel the same way about Lovecraft's Dreamlands stuff.

I know of a song by that title. I wonder if it is related in some way? -
