I always disliked Space Opera. But there are good writers in every sub-genre. Like... Piers Anthony. One of the first authors I read. And I read just about every original Conan book that Rober E. Howard wrote. Those were damn good for a 14 year old. Though the English teacher didn't like me making book reports on them. Iguess she wanted me to be reading Jane Eyre, or something. I've read plenty that have an excellent story (they have a fully developed, beautiful world), but their storytelling is so poor I couldn't stand pulling myself through to get to the end.
