Glad to hear there's a few folks who were able to continue the series after...well, Covenant's first reaction to hurtloam and Lena. I've seen the advance reading copy for the new book but didn't purchase it. I can't wait.

It did actually take me two tries to get into "Lord Foul's Bane" and I think it was because the book was filled with so much pain and depression, from his developing leprosy to going temporarily insane and raping Lena after being healed. I only got a few hundred pages in and quit; but then a few months later I started over and read all six books straight through. The hardbound version of "White Gold Wielder" was published just as I finished "One Tree." I'm tempted to read the series again, in anticipation of the new book, but it would be such an undertaking!

Four books of Covenant's damn Ghost whining about how it wasn't his fault?
Don't even wanna think about it!

Know what you mean. I tend to skim his parts and focus more on the "secondary" characters. I LOVED the section of Hile Troy in the Illearth War.

haha, I can understand how that would be frustrating, but from what I read he's what keeps Linden Avery going, at least in the first book. He encourages her and gives her strength. It's Linden that will be the whiny one again, apparently. LOL

Oh I read them all right, the storyline and secondary characters were great. But after the hurtloam and what he did to Lena and the continous whining, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't stand him. I read the books hoping he would die in the end.

The September issue of Locus Magazine has an interview with Steve wherein he talks about why he started up the new series and where he's going with it, how his writing has changed over the intervening years, etc. You should be able to pick this up for another couple of weeks at any sf/f specialty bookshop.
