ABSTRACT
The Academy of Scientific Astrology is based on astronomic principles confirming to the IAU convention. The calculations are performed on the HORIZONS integrator by Jon Giorgini of NASA JPL, Pasadena CA.
Subject headings: solar system – Academic Zodiac, astrology – precession of the ascendant, meridian constellations

1. INTRODUCTION

Over the years the Academic Zodiac has been published, tested and tried in a variety of situations ranging from Eros landing to the discovery of the WMAP cold spot. It is our intent and duty to give credit while referring to the NASA JPL staff that guided our first steps into the fascinating world that we call universe. Our mission was not only to delineate all the dwarf planets, centaur objects and classes of special objects, but also study the universal horoscope much as the ancients would. Surprisingly, we have everything that is needed for such a study; in a word, we have NASA.

2. OBSERVATIONS

The ancients observed the skies. This matter of fact marks the difference between the ancient and modern. The visionary astronomers saw the exact positions of the stars according to precession as well as other energetic changes in the finer strata. Anyone observing the sky will determine the rising constellations. These change according to epoch and precession. The ascendant set is by no means static. Observation discloses the true nature of the skies: they rotate. As the skies rotate, the set of ascendants is changing. As the set of ascendants is changing, so does the pulse of this little planet, e.g. today we have a small set of ascendants, only 16, accounting for the uniform state of planetary culture.

3. DATA REDUCTION

The Academic Zodiac has been studied and published as based on scientific facts. The introductory study includes the precession of the ascendant, as well a special treatise on the meridian constellations.
The definition under 1) implies that there is a difference between eastern and meridian constellations, much as the local zodiac stands apart as separate system.
The same rules do not apply to ascendants and zodiacal constellations, much as a separate study of the meridian constellations is required in an astrologer.
The astrologer operating within the real sky environment learns to reduce the data to the essential: ascendant, Moon, star gates, WMAP cold spot and major conjunctions.
Data can be extracted by planetocentric analysis, e.g. In a Juno-centric marriage horoscope, Venus conjunct Bellatrix conveys data that were not obtainable by geocentric analysis.
4. MODEL

The Academic Zodiac spawns further models.

The Academic Zodiac with its standard 22 IAU constellations stands apart fro the set of eastern ascendants, whose number is 16.
The Cartesian house system regulates the uniform of stellar information in a given situation, whether during a seaquake (topocentric depression, negative altitude), on spacecraft or alien solar system. The board mainframe already incorporates such a system.
Scanning the local zodiac for travel purpose is executed by a basic program with preprogrammed zodiacs as well as input and correction capabilities. Zodiacs will be determined on the flight.

5. DISCUSSION

It would be beyond our expectations to find a primitive society handling the intricacies of precession and the zodiac. Slaves and primitives are expected to do as they are told, think as it is expected from their primitive culture, and most of all think big of their culture and leaders. The culture one is born into is the greatest of all times, for all practical purposes. One will not question since the experts do their job and one is not to interfere. It is clear that the Indian, Hebrew and Chinese civilizations are in turn the greatest of all. With due respect towards your civilization, mine is slightly greater than yours is.

6. SUMMARY

Neglect and occult reason have reduced the zodiac to speculative game for the masses. Asinine presumptions have Spica Virginis in Libra and soon Scorpius.
People born with Sun in Virgo are already being told that they are “Scorpio”. Soon the error will expand towards 90 degrees without anyone noticing.
Ascendant Pisces is being interpreted as Capricorn, even when Capricornus can not rise at due east for the epoch.
The Sun is in Libra for Sai Baba’s birthday, November 23rd.
Scores of people believe in the most improbable ascendants and zodiacal positions, such as Aries ascending or even “Pluto in Aries”. Apart from being ridiculous, such presumptions are dangerous in many ways. Pluto never enters Aries or Pisces, much as Eris will never enter Taurus at all. The people who handled the zodiac and ascendant set during the years were poorly educated to say the least. There may be even belief in 12 or 13 signs in the academic world, such is the pressure of the unconscious media upon modern daily mind.

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the publication of my urban fantasy novel, BLACK MAGIC WOMAN.

It’s in most bookstores, and available online from Amazon and other dealers.

Here are 13 things you didn’t know about BLACK MAGIC WOMAN -- both the plot and the book itself.

1. The hero (well, one of them), Quincey Morris, is the great-great-grandson of the
Texan who died at the end of the original DRACULA. Contending with
supernatural evil has become something of a Morris family tradition.

2. The book was released in the UK and Australia on January 8th. The North
American release date was pushed back to January 29th because of a problem at
the North American printer.

3. African “muti” magic sometimes involves the use of human organs – which must be “harvested” while the victim is still alive.

4. "White" witch Libby Chastain, Quincey's partner in the investigation, is
bisexual, and a devout practitioner of what she calls "serial monogamy."

5. Jim Butcher, author of the "Dresden Files" novels, was kind enough to read
the manuscript pre-publication. As quoted on the book's cover, he calls BLACK
MAGIC WOMAN "the best manuscript I've ever been asked to read."

6. Quincey Morris is terrified of snakes, having almost died from
snakebite as a young boy. If only he knew….

7. Simon R. Green, author of the John Taylor 'Nightside" novels, was sent an
advance reading copy of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN and said, "This is a novel that's packed with story and engaging characters, and I can't wait to read the next one."

8. "White" magic cannot be used to do harm to somebody -- which doesn't mean
that you can't use it sometimes to kick somebody’s ass, as Libby Chastain knows full well.

9. Waterstones, the largest UK bookstore chain, has designated BLACK MAGIC
WOMAN as its featured SF/Fantasy title of the month. It's got its own display
in each of their 300-some stores. And if that ain’t freakin’ awesome, I don’t know what is.

10. It’s possible to drive off a bunch of zombies without having to “kill” them. All you need is the right magic – and a skilled magician to use it.

11. The South African national police really does have an Occult Crimes
Investigation Unit, although my character, Garth Van Dreenan, is not based on any
real person.

12. Vampires really do hate sunlight. A lot.

13. When you make a deal with the devil, the notes come due in brimstone.

Thanks for indulging me, everybody. I hope I've piqued your interest and that
you'll take a look at my novel. I'm kinda proud of it.

I'm doing a slush reading marathon. You're invited. It's called the Winter Workout, the link for the place to respond is at the bottom. Or you an send me a message through Tribe's message service.

Cheers,

How it works:
Everyone who sends me a science fiction, fantasy, or urban fantasy novel between 10pm ET on February 4th, and 8am ET on February 6th will get at least one full chapter (up to fifty pages) read and critiqued by me. Many, will get theirs back the same day. To do this I will be reading for twenty four straight hours. My goal is to pass the mark i made last year which was 19 first chapters and critiques. To do this, if I am still reading after one chapter or fifty pages I will send the writer an email that says "Still Reading after one." or something similar.

Last time i picked up two clients out of this, and have one more resubmission in my inbox waiting to be read.

Writers should note that I use the same four part critique form for everyone. The sections are: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, and The Rest.

Everyone should add my domain to their spam filters immediately. When you submit you will get an auto-response telling you it has been received. Anyone who does not follow the submission guidelines on my website will be rejected without being read. www.Onyxhawke.com

Notes:
If i get the same size response or larger as last year, I will not get to everyone on that Wednesday. I will still read everything. Everyone who has submitted things to the regular submission inbox will be read between now and 2/6. My replies may start very soon after midnight as I read and type pretty quickly.

Most importantly: go spread the word, the more submissions i get, the happier I'll be.

Edit: the email address for submissions for the Winter Workout is: ww@Onyxhawke.com
TALES OF MU 1: Welcome to MU
"In Which We Meet Mackenzie"
by Alexandra Erin

Despite the presence of cardboard signs trimmed with crepe paper and balloons, I completely missed the front door of Harlowe Hall and instead ended up in a big spartan lobby/hallway that linked three different residential buildings. I thought that’s where the sign had been pointing... later, I’d find out that Harlowe’s entrance was actually below the ground level, off a sort of sunken patio that was screened from view by the shrubbery I’d walked past. Nobody ever wandered into it by accident. The lobby was full of people, bustling among the front and rear entrances and the three large hallways branching off from it in every combination of to-and-from. Most of them were carrying at least a suitcase. Some of them were trundling luggage trolleys, often with a mini fridge and/or TV.

I stared around blankly, hoping for a sign of where I was supposed to be. Luckily, somebody spotted me and took pity on me.

"Hey, frosh!" a sharp, but not hostile, voice said. I spun around and saw a preppy-looking guy without any baggage. "What you looking for?"

"Harlowe," I said.

I caught a look that was a mixture of surprise, disgust, and fear, but he hid it pretty fast. He pointed to a set of double-doors leading to one of the hallways.

"Thanks," I said, keeping my voice as neutral as I could. He had helped me, after all.

I lugged my suitcase, backpack, and duffel bag down the hall. The staircase was easy to find, and it took me down to a big glass-fronted common room that was positively packed with people. Surprisingly little sunlight reached in through the windows. Most of the people there were sitting around in the second-hand sofas and chairs, or just milling around. It looked like most of them had already checked in. There were three lines of people leading up to the long reception desk, but the longest one only had four students in it and they were all moving quickly.

Fragments of conversation reached me over the general murmur and buzz as I got in line.

"I’m actually taking nineteen hours of classes this semester. That seems like a lot. Does that seem like a lot to you?"

"You know, this was my safety school."

"Can you believe they don’t even let us have candles in our dorm? How are we supposed to..."

"Did you see the weapon policy? They’re pretty strict."

"Name?" the woman asked me when I got up to the counter. She had a nametag which read "Gwendolyn Rodrigues - Resident Advisor."

"Mackenzie Blaise," I said.

"Is Mackenzie your first name or your last?" she asked me, turning away from me to a table against the back wall, covered with large envelopes.

"First," I said, adding unnecessarily, "Blaise is my last name." What can I say? It was my first day at college, and I’d already made what felt like one giant blunder, even if nobody knew about it. I was the tiniest bit nervous.

She found the packet labeled "Blaise, Mackenzie" and handed it to me.

"This is a copy of your class schedule, a calendar of events, coupons for the student union, and emergency phone numbers," she said. "Now, you’ll need to read and sign this statement about compliance with the university’s weapons policy." Even though she was obviously a student and only a few years older than me, she already had the voice and facial expression of an officious bureaucrat. I could tell that being an R.A. was only one step in what would doubtless be a very fulfilling career for her in the field of interfering with others’ lives.

"Of course," I said, barely glancing at the slip of paper before signing it.

"And, of course, I have to see the weapon you’ll be using."

I reached into my coat and pulled out the knife, the twisted bronze hilt protruding from a lambskin sheath, and laid it down on the counter.

"That’s your main weapon?" she asked me, eyebrows raised.

"It’s the only one I’ve got," I said, with a silly grin.

"Only it’s not very big, is it?"

"I’ve never been much impressed with size," I told her.

"It’s barely enchanted," she observed. I wondered if she could tell that at a glance, or if there was something under the counter telling her that.

"The policy I read just said a magical weapon, it didn’t specify how magical it had to be," I pointed out. I’d been expecting this reaction, but it didn’t make it any less irksome.

"It’s just... life on campus can get dangerous..."

"I’ve never needed anything bigger," I said testily.

For a few moments, she looked at me like she wanted to say something... like she was going to invoke some little-known rule to throw me out until I came back with one of those absurdly huge broadswords or big spiky maces, but finally she just said, "All right. But there’s a nice little weapon store in town, if you change your mind."

"I’ll remember that," I said.

She held out a small manila envelope slightly larger than a business card.

"Here’s your room key and a pass card to get in and out of the building after dark," she said. "Though it’s best not to wander around campus too much at night. Stick to the lighted paths, and travel with a friend as much as possible. It’s all in your campus security pamphlet."

"Yes, thank you, I’ve read it," I said, reaching for the packet. She still looked doubtful, but she finally handed it to me.

"You’ll be needing this back, too," she said, handing me my knife, hilt-first.

"I’m actually hoping I won’t."

"Oh, yes, of course," she said. "Welcome to Magisterius University, Ms. Blaise."

I have recently published a novel about a pantheon of gods (fictional of course) who have caused one of the worst droughts in history and who are subsequently made to come to the earth... It is a humorous and irreverent tale. If anyone out there thinks they may be interested in reading it, please let me know. I'm looking for reviewers and would be happy to send you a copy if you think it may be your kind of thing.
i never read as a child if i could help it. i figured i was probably illiterate. then i got to study war poetry at secondary school. and was amazed. and then i found terry pratchett. never looked back since. granted i moved away from the poems of death, but i loved curling up with a book and getting lost in them. as the years past i watched less tv (well, yeah, not like there is much there worth watching) and even my big love of films diminished and now i am content to have a book to get lost in. new worlds to play in and explore. this is in part as reading robert jordans 'wheel of time' was suggested to me last year. my spree of crime novels stopped dead in it's tracks at that point. i am only on book 8 (slow reader) but the enjoyment factor is off the chart. true i will always have a soft spot for star wars novels......may not have bought one in years but they are like a comfort blanket in times of need.

so i wonder, who read what first, what did you all fall for and have your tastes changed over the years?

Well last night it finally happened. I hit the 100 page mark!
Wait, maybe I should give a little more background before I continue. I am writing my first fantasy book. I have written lots of children's stories for various course work and for my daughter and nieces. This is different, now that I am finally done with school, I have the time to put in some real effort into my writing. I started this book late last year after being inspired by a multide of things including a dream and the fact that I had time to read for enjoyment again. I read a really great book followed by a really awful book. That was when I decided it was time to put some of my ideas together and start writing a book I could call my own.
Now back to the present...
Last night I finally hit the 100 page mark, a personal goal I set for myself. While working this weekend, I have mapped out another minor plot twist, how to work up to the major crescendo, as well as the ending. I am very pleased with my book so far.=) I hope others can enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. The characters have grown and adapted well to the minor trials and tribulations. I have tried to pour in the sensory details so that the reader can experience the story as it unfolds. Now that I am working towards an end, I guess I need to decide what to do with it when I am done.
I know this post is mostly rambling but I just needed to share. Thanks for listening.

My question is this, is there enough action and/or character developement in 'Micah' that I should read it? If it's 50 pages story, 300+ pages sex, I probably won't bother.

Thanx!

What do you think is a strong ending to a story? Is it when everything is resolved and explained? When everything just ends ubruptly? Or when the conflict is resolved but the characters still have purpose and are left with things to do? Or is it something totally different? I ask this for two reasons. First, I am getting to the end of my first story I have written in years. Second, I have read a ton of books lately that had unsatifying endings. Either everything is all roses and sunshine and there is no troubles left or the other extreme where the major conflict is resolved and then the words: THE END! I just wanted to get some opinions.

This looks like an interesting tribe, I'm really glad that you all include fantasy writers and not just fantasy books. I'm writing a serial (series of stories much like Dickens used to do) about a girl who encounters the supernatural/fantasy world that is being published by www.wildshorepress.com. I love writing and reading fantasy books- they add magic to real life, right? I hope to get some good suggestions from here.

SPOILER ALERT - i am intending this post to be a discussion for people who have read the book. So feel free to divulge anything. IF YOU HAVE NOT
read the book, you are warned.

Strange that such an exquisite book that received so much praise has little to NONE dialog about it's contents.

I have many questions and I will begin with this one:

In the opening chapter when Segundus and Honeyfoot visit Mr. Norrell in his library, Mr. Segundus notices something odd: "A chair was drawn up to the fire and by the chair stood a little table. Upon the table lay the boards and leather bindings of a very old book, a pair of scissars and a strong, cruel-looking kninfe, such as a gardener might use for prunning. Perhaps, thought Mr. Segundus, he has sent it away to be bound anew. Yet the old binding still looked strong and why should Mr. Norrell trouble himself to remove the pages and risk damaging them? A skilled bookbinder was the proper person to do such work."

And that is all that is said of the matter, as far as I can tell. What is it that Norrell is doing? Has he destroyed a book? Which book? Will we ever find out? Is it merely to suggest the dubious, protective nature of Norrell or is something else afoot?

I've been puzzling over this and my puzzler is no closer.

I was describing this book to a friend who doesn't read last night. I only told him a little bit about the beginning and the Yorkshire theoretical magicians. And he mentioned something about it being a battle. And yes the book is all about battles isn't it? The battle between England and France. Norrell and Strange, Lascelles and Childermass, The Raven King and the Gentleman with the Thistle Down Hair - and TGWTTDH and Strange particularly are the most memorable battles. Not sure what to make of that but it is something to notice.

Then there are questions like, what could it be that Vinculous now reads, meaning his tatoos have changed.

Is there such a thing as will in this story?

How come some things are easy to do in magic but others aren't? For instance it is easy to move a whole city temporarily but difficult to make the dead dead again.

What is the dialect of hell? Isn't the cosmology interesting? Heaven/Hell, England/Fairie.

What is interesting you about this story? I would love to see some good artwork of this before the movie people get their hands on it. The only pictures i have found are cheesy anime style drawings. I want The Brother's Hildebrandt.

Now after recovering from a two month avalanche of writing jobs, I'm taking on new clients for script and book work.

My company is WRITERSSOURCE.NET. I do a wide variety of creative and business writing, but my best work is done analyzing/doctoring books and scripts. You can check out my bio and testimonials from happy customers at WRITERSSOURCE.NET.

In addition, the last two months have been phenomenal! I finished my modern day fairy tale "London Fog" and became a finalist at the International Moondance Film Festival with it. London Fog is getting a lot of positive attention.

I've done six freelance writing jobs, one being an ongoing project whereas I'm developing a great screenplay. (The story has already been bought by a production company.)

I just became an assistant director (and possibly a co-producer) of Star Trek Voyages episode "World Enough and Time", written by Marc Zicree and Michael Reaves, and starring George Takei - pretty dang exciting.

I am also producing/writing and directing a documentary with Marc Zicree on the making of New Voyages called "Elvis Made Me Do Star Trek". (If you look at their website you'll get the Elvis reference.) Not to shabby!

If you need any more convincing go to the website and check me out! Otherwise, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call.
